HMRC business mileage calculator
Calculate HMRC approved mileage allowance (AMAP) at 45p and 25p rates and claimable tax relief (MAR) on employer business driving.
In your browser
HMRC allows an extra 5p per mile for each colleague carried on business journeys.
Your employer reimbursed you £, which is £ below the HMRC approved rate. You can claim Mileage Allowance Relief (MAR) directly from HMRC on form P87 or your Self Assessment return to receive £ in tax refund.
Your employer paid £ more than the HMRC approved rates. The excess is considered a taxable benefit and should be reported on form P11D, resulting in approximately £ in PAYE income tax.
Your employer reimbursement exactly matches the HMRC approved rates. No tax relief is claimable and no extra tax is owed.

Questions
Can I claim mileage relief if my company pays 25p per mile?
Yes. Since HMRC approved rate is 45p for the first 10,000 miles, you can claim tax relief on the 20p shortfall through HMRC form P87 or Self Assessment.
What are the HMRC approved mileage rates?
For cars and vans: 45p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles in a tax year, and 25p per mile for each mile thereafter. Motorcycles are 24p/mile, and bicycles are 20p/mile.
Can I claim tax relief if my employer pays less than 45p?
Yes. If your employer pays less than the HMRC approved rate (e.g. 25p or nothing), you can claim Mileage Allowance Relief (MAR) on the difference via form P87 or Self Assessment.
Can I claim mileage for commuting to my normal workplace?
No. HMRC rules strictly exclude ordinary home-to-workplace commuting. You can only claim for travel between temporary workplaces or travel required for business visits.
