Do employees in Germany have a legal right to work part-time?
Yes. Under the Part-Time and Fixed-Term Employment Act (TzBfG), employees in companies with more than 15 staff who have been employed for over 6 months generally have a statutory right to reduce working hours.
Why does net income drop by a smaller percentage than gross income in part-time?
Due to Germany's progressive income tax system, lower gross income falls into lower marginal tax brackets, resulting in a proportionally smaller reduction in net take-home pay.
